Who is responsible
I run this website: Dr Dmitrijs Sokolovs (Dmitry Sokolov MD), Glasgow, Scotland. I am the controller of the personal data described here and am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (registration number ZB509057). Questions about this notice or about personal data: contact@dmitrysokolovmd.com.
What the website collects
The website has no visitor accounts, no analytics and no advertising tags, and it sets no cookies for visitors. Personal data reach it in four ways.
- Security records. The server records the technical details of each request – the device’s IP address, the page asked for, the browser and the time. The website’s security software, Wordfence, uses them to block attacks and keeps a record of blocked requests and of attempts to log in.
- Emails. A message to contact@dmitrysokolovmd.com arrives in my Google Workspace mailbox with the sender’s name, email address and whatever the message contains.
- The contact form. A message sent through the form is emailed to the same mailbox with the sender’s name, email address, chosen subject and message. It is not stored on the website.
- The newsletter. Signing up stores the email address, the first name if given, the date and the wording agreed to, and the date of confirmation.
Please do not include health details in an email or a message: no medical advice is given by email.
Why, and on what legal basis
- Security records keep the website and its visitors safe. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in a secure website (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
- Emails and contact-form messages are used to reply and, where an enquiry leads to a service, to arrange it. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Article 6(1)(f)), or steps taken at the sender’s request before an agreement (Article 6(1)(b)).
- The newsletter is sent only to people who sign up and confirm. Legal basis: consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which can be withdrawn at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or by emailing me.
Nothing is sold, used for other marketing or used for automated decisions.
Who else handles it
- Hostinger International Ltd hosts the website, including the newsletter list, on a server in the United Kingdom and runs the network that delivers its pages.
- Google provides the email service (Google Workspace), sends the confirmation emails and stores the website’s backups (Google Drive).
- Amazon Web Services will send the newsletter (Amazon Simple Email Service, in the European Union) once sending starts.
- Defiant, Inc. (United States), the maker of Wordfence, receives information about attacks on the website, which can include the attacking device’s IP address, so that known attackers can be blocked across the websites that use it.
Where any of them handles data outside the United Kingdom, it relies on the safeguards for international transfers in its data protection terms.
How long it is kept
- Records of blocked requests: deleted after 30 days. Records of login attempts: a rolling log, the oldest entries deleted as new ones arrive. The host’s own server logs: kept under Hostinger’s policy.
- Backups of the website, which include these records and the newsletter list: up to 8 weeks.
- Emails and contact-form messages: as long as needed to answer and for my records, and no longer than two years after the last message – unless an enquiry becomes a client relationship, which has its own record-keeping rules.
- Newsletter: until unsubscribing. Sign-ups not confirmed within 30 days are deleted. After unsubscribing, the email address is kept only on a do-not-send list, so that nothing more is sent.
Rights
Under UK data protection law, anyone can ask for a copy of their personal data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for its use to be restricted, object to its use, or withdraw consent. Requests go to contact@dmitrysokolovmd.com, and I reply within one month. A complaint can also be made to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
